While we first investigated book design in the Fall of 2015 during our Design Studio I class, in Typography III, we had a chance to revisit typesetting. The body copy was written by Kristin Knox as the introduction to her book ALEXANDER MCQUEEN: Genius of a Generation, while the title and corresponding sections were developed by myself, inspired by McQueen’s own words. The font is Baskerville, just like McQueen’s famous logo is set in. Images came from a variety of art books on McQueen as well as online resources. Likely feeling guilty I had not written my own source copy, the following Spring I wrote a paper on Alexander McQueen and his famous “bumster” jeans for my History of Fashion class. The following pages feature example spreads from the final designed book, which measured 20” x 13” when open.
